Zerbini Circus Benefit Show Yields $45,000 for Fort McMurray Relief - Coming to Barrie this August
The Zerbini Circus’s last minute relocation to the Town of Olds Alberta, and the free benefit performance put on by the cast and crew of the show recently raised over $15,000 for Fort McMurray relief in this small Alberta community.
“What’s more,” said Kerry Moynihan, Director of Guest Experience at Olds College, “our young 4H’ers did an admirable job as ambassadors of Fort McMurray, and collected over $15,000 from the 1500 or so townsfolk and friends who attended. It was a great experience for the kids to get involved like this; community is one of the fundamental tenets of the 4H program.”
He added, “Putting this together on a moment’s notice like this required the participation of the Town of Olds, Mayor Judy Dahl and Council, Mountainview County, Olds College itself, and myriad others who rolled up their sleeves to help. The funds will be turned over to the Canadian Red Cross and according to Town Council, with both the Province of Alberta’s and the Federal Government’s matching grants, we will have generated about $45,000 for Fort McMurray relief. It’s a good feeling to help in our own way, and the kids will never forget the experience; nor will they ever forget this fabulous show.”
Mayor Judy Dahl, who opened the show in a sparkling white tuxedo and family heirloom loaned by ringmaster Joseph Dominick Bauer, expressed her appreciation to the Circus and to all the performers for thinking of Olds, and for coming together for the people of Fort McMurray.
Now, Zerbini’s acclaimed show will visit Barrie under the banner of the Shrine Circus Spectac! ™ 2016.
