The Circus Season Is Over but Fun Family Activities Will Continue in 2016!

Another season of Shrine Circus has ended. With it came an ample supply of fun family activities, fun family entertainment, and the creation of many valuable memories for you and your family. From all of the staff here at our circus, we would like to thank you for taking the time to choose our circus as your source of fun family activities and we hope that you will visit us in 2016.

This year was a big year and we are extremely happy with the outcome of our shows. We have had an outpouring of positive support, media coverage, and many fan interactions helped make this a great year. We live for the sense of wonderment, the smiles of young children who are experiencing the circus for the first time, and the spectacular spectacles. All of these features are combined into a total package that offers you fun family activities and entertainment.

Highlighting a Year of Fun Family Activities

Like any year, the Shrine Circus kicks off its fun summer entertainment with the construction of our classic big top tent. Nothing is more iconic to the circus than the big top tent. Still, where would the circus be without its high quality performers? Audiences were dazzled by the spectacular abilities of the World Famous Wallendas family. Led by Rick Wallenda, audiences were captivated by the skillful acts of Rick and his family. Piolita and the Videla Family tapped into audience’s funny bone and kept them laughing throughout most of the summer. When things needed to be a little more serious, the Flying Cortes Family stepped in and stole the show, providing a high quality and extremely talented flying trapeze act.

For your entertainment, we have provided a time-lapse video showing the construction of the big top tent.

Our circus promises fun family activities that you can share with your son, daughter, or children of any age. We are passionate about what we do and we were pleased with the turnout this year.

Media Coverage of the Circus

We are truly thankful to the media for the coverage they provided the circus this year. Through their exposure, they highlighted how fun the circus is and how valuable it is as a form of fun family entertainment.

CP24 and the Flying Cortes Family

If you live in the Toronto area, you are familiar with CP24 and their popular news programs. CP24 covered the various fun family activities found at our circus and helped families discover how fun the circus can be.

CP24’s Jamie Gutfreund showcased the Flying Cortes Family, a group of trapeze artists that have been performing for over five generations.

CTV and the Circus

CTV aired a segment detailing the circus and its acts. The segment focused on the World Famous Wallendas and their dazzling tightrope performances, ringmaster Richard Curtis and his background in the marines, the amazing elephants, and much more.

CHCH and the Circus

CHCH also covered the Shrine Circus this year. They highlighted the Flying Cortes Family and spoke directly with ringmaster Richard Curtis, who explained that it was important for the circus to focus on staying relevant and providing fun family activities for everyone.

“Were really excited as usual with Shrine Circus, were trying to remain relevant, contemporary, and bring something fresh,” he said before describing the Flying Cortes Family and their amazing abilities.

CHCH’s Lori de Angelis was blown away by the sheer athleticism of the performers.

“What people don’t understand is that you are getting la crème de la crème when you come here to a show,” she said.

Curtis made it clear that there have been over five generations of Cortes performers and that the family has a deep-rooted history in performing arts with a focus on the trapeze.

Global News on the Wallendas Stolen Equipment

During a show in Calgary this year, the Wallendas were the victims of a major theft. While Rick Wallenda was preparing for a show, someone hitched up his trailer and stole it.

“Some people love to see a circus pull in and this one saw an opportunity and jumped on it,” said Rick at the time.

“At about 5 o’clock I went out to get something out of the trailer and the trailer was gone. The man who sets the tent up for us said he saw a little red truck pulling my trailer out of the gate,” Wallenda said.

The family was shocked that someone would do that and they offered a reward to anyone that could help them recover their sentimental belongings.

“My high wire shoes, which are very important. Wardrobe has sentimental value, one of the tuxedos comes from my uncle that passed away. Some of the other costumes were made by my aunt who passed away last month,” Wallenda said.
