“The Shrine Circus is a traditional European big-top family circus caravan; adult performers, their children and their animals”, said Larry Solheim, Circus Tour Manager.“We’ll take you into a world where you’ll see spectacular performances from around the globe; Germany, Romania, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, France, USA and Canada.”
As part of their commitment to the responsible and economically viable preservation of rare, endangered and exotic animals, Tarzan’s daughter, Patti and her husband own an exotic animal sanctuary near Gainesville, Florida (www.allaboutelephants.com).
“Elephants are incredibly intelligent; they love to be challenged, and thrive on human interaction”, added Solheim. “I think we’ve found a workable compromise, whereby the Zerbini Asian Elephants can tour Canada in the summer months, and retire to the warmer climates of the USA in winter. This should satisfy everyone and still allow children to experience these magnificent animals firsthand.”
The Annual Shrine Circus is one of the largest fraternal events sponsored by the Shriners. The Shrine Circus provides a quality, fun filled family experience with proceeds going to great causes – the good work of Shriners in your community. Kids Up Front is also the designated agency giving deserving children an opportunity to come and see the show. For more information and to purchase tickets online please

New Shrine Circus Poll to Reveal the Circus Acts Fans Prefer
TORONTO, ONTARIO-(Marketwired - June 2, 2014) -
The Shrine Circus, as represented in Ontario by the Zerbini Family, is a traditional European
big-top, family circus caravan. It will be performing in 7 locations in Ontario this summer. For over 80 years, it has brought smiles to children’s faces, has made moms and dads laugh, and has thrilled audiences of all ages with their stunning performances. Now the Shrine Circus wants to hear from their fans about their preferences for circus acts through an online poll.
“The circus is such a special place when it’s a traditional circus like this. The circus is an art form that is over 500 years old, that’s older than opera or baseball. There is something in this show for young and old,” said Joseph Bauer, Jr., ringmaster and 8th generation circus performer.
Recently, there have been efforts to restrict the kind of family entertainment available at circuses in Canada. Zoos, aquariums, theme parks, and animal sanctuaries are being pressured into shipping their elephants and other exotic animals out of Canada, depriving families of the only opportunity many will ever have to see these majestic animals first-hand. And despite public awareness and renewed conservation efforts, it is a challenge for the Shrine Circus to maintain its European traditions and present the animal performers that they are famous for.
“I’m keeping the act going and my son and daughter are ninth generation performers. It would be a lot for me to want to give it up. It’s in our blood and we really enjoy sharing it with Canadians,” added Bauer.
Exotic animals, especially elephants, have held great importance in many of the world’s societies and cultures throughout history. They have been a part of human society and our traditions for as long as circuses have been around. The Shrine Circus wants to provide circus fans with the opportunity to express their opinions as to which acts they feel are essential for a circus to be truly satisfying.

Shrine Circus Updated With Thrill Show Acts in Ontario
The World Famous Shrine Circus Announces Renowned Daredevil Family to Join the Show in Rexdale, Ontario. As a Result of a Permit Holdup at the U.S. Border, the Zerbini Tigers Will Not Be Performing at the Show.
TORONTO, ONTARIO-(Marketwired - May 29, 2014) -
The Shrine Circus is a traditional European, big-top, family circus caravan featuring adult performers, their children and their animals in a format that dates back over 500 years. The 2014 Rexdale shows will break with tradition and also feature some thrilling new acts.
“Imagine riding a Motorcycle on a high wire suspended 70 feet in the air, while dangling a trapeze artist and performing acrobatic stunts on the handlebars,” said Larry Solheim, Circus Tour Manager.
The Shrine Circus takes you into the daredevil world of Karl Winn, and his sister and brothers.
Originating from Germany, the Winn Family go back eight generations in the circus world. The Winns were among the first in the world to perform the famed Motorcycle High Wire Act and they have amazed hundreds of thousands around the globe with their now famous high wire acts, stunts and aerial escapades.
Karl Winn will perform his thrilling Motor Cycle High Wire Act and death-defying Wheel of Destiny at the Shrine Circus under Canada’s only traditional European family circus Big Top. There will be 13 performances between Friday, June 13th and Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 at the Woodbine Centre in Rexdale, Ontario.
“While the tigers will not be in our show in Rexdale this year, we still have a fun-filled entertainment package planned for the whole family. The surprises we have lined up will leave everyone completely enthralled and engaged,” added Solheim.
The circus appears to be reaching out to a new demographic - young teens. Circus producer Tarzan Zerbini discusses his circus audience in this video. “The Winns (High Wire Motor Cycle Act and Wheel of Destiny) are incredible, daring artists who keep audiences on the edge of their seats during all of their mesmerizing aerial acts,” concluded Zerbini.
